Interview with Canadian DJ GRLSKOUT

Interview with Canadian DJ GRLSKOUT

We came across GRLSKOUT’s Soundcloud Mama Lion Mixtape and instantly fell in love! We reached out to the Canadian DJ to do an interview and here’s what she has to say.

How long have you been DJing? And why did you start?

I have been DJing for 12 years now. When I finished high school I was in school for Acting and I wanted a job that I loved that was fun and didn’t take up to much of my time. So my guitar player in the band that I played in at the time was a DJ and he taught me. I then started DJing after parties for all the big acts that would play in Vancouver and the rest is history.

When did you discover your love for music production and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career as a DJ/Music producer?

I used to play in bands growing up and played keyboards in a electro pop band that did pretty well. Thats when I started really getting into synthesizers. I also was DJing so much that I started to get bored of the music I was playing and wanted to learn to produce my own.

What is your favorite gig thus far and why?

Oh that’s a tough question cause I have so many! I just recently landed some pretty big clients and DJing a lot of private events for big car brands like Lamborghini, Bentley and Aston Martin. Those have been really cool experiences. I like that I have such a variety of gigs from clubs, festivals and corporate gigs. It keeps things interesting and I never get bored.

Do you have any cool gigs coming up?

I have a big festival gig coming up on March 22nd that is put on by Insomniac. Its called Beyond Wonderland and I’m gonna be playing main stage which I am really excited about.

What are your plans for the near future?

I have been DJing quite a lot lately, but any down time I get has been dedicated to studio time and working on a bunch of original music and music for other clients.

What suggestions do you have for other artist like yourself?

To follow your heart and dreams. If you truly dedicate yourself to your craft and really push yourself anything is possible.

Here is a link to her outstanding Mama Lion mixtape that will have you dancing in no time!
