Urbanista’s Tapes Off The Track is a series of live recordings of local music talent, filmed in some of Merseyside’s most idyllic settings, with the aim of capturing the magic of our chosen artists in their purest, most stripped back form. Here is a session from the KingFast.
KingFast is a singer/Songwriter whose soulful vocals and modern guitar sound have been gathering traction around the UK.
In 2017 KingFast graced many of Liverpool’s most prestigious festivals including Threshold Festival & Liverpool Sound City; in 2018 he will return to both. as well as beyond Liverpool; Wigan Live Festival and headlining Yewstock Festival. To round off 2017 KingFast was crowned winner of Merseyrail Sound Station 2017 along with a live session on Dave Monks’ BBC Introducing show. As well as already performing at Aintree Racecourse for Ladies Day with Radio City and Threshold Festival, KingFast is set to return to Sound City, Smithdown Road Festival and make a debut at Liverpool International Music Festival as well as making an appearance in Cannes to perform in the midst of the Film Festival.
It is very apparent on listening to KingFast’s music that there is a fusion of several genres but seemingly most prominent is a cross between soul and pop.
Bido Lito – “Stunning looped guitar acrobatics and soulful pop numbers.”
Planet Slop – “Simple, but powerful. He has an almost folk-ish sound mixed with some of the most soulful vocals ever heard coming out of the city. Aside from the earworm hook and KingFast’s irresistible voice, the self-created harmonies… elevate it… by the time you reach his falsetto you have all but fallen in love.” Click for full review
Liverpool etc. – “You can buy a great sound, but a great voice is priceless. So is ‘feel’. It doesn’t matter if that lightness of touch comes with the guitar or in wrapping a melody around a well-worn chord sequence, whatever said indefinable is, KingFast has found it” Click for full review
Liverpool Sound and Vision – KingFast is “clean but powerful, creative and illuminating and wildly cool. It is in the voice, always down to the projection that catches the ear and for that the young man is a man to be reckoned with musically and not messed with intellectually… A delight, a welcome as broad as the summer thought, and one that caught the time perfectly.” Click for full review
Dave Monks (BBC Merseyside Introducing) – “Wow, what a voice… Very Soulful.”
Liverpool Sound City (Emerging Talent – Martin Moseley) – “I really enjoyed that!”
Live Music Reviews – It’s no surprise KingFast won the Merseyrail Sound Station prize in 2017. He has an incredible voice, song-writing ability and a distinctive look. Born in Jamaica, raised in Belfast and living in Liverpool, he fuses many genres to produce classy soulful pop.
