This week’s track of the week is the soaring new single from Manchester-based Chess Club signee Phoebe Green – Reinvent.
A dash of colour in an often bland corner of the musical universe, Reinvent is an easy-going slice of sparkling alt-pop that pulses along moodily, patiently waiting to find it’s place on a movie soundtrack.
Penned pre-lockdown in collaboration with The Big Moon’s Juliette Jackson – with whom she shares management – Green bares her vulnerable soul of the synths and drum machines, whilst having fun taking the piss a bit. Its meaning can be interpreted several ways based on your mood – something Green herself has flirted with during lockdown.
Reinvention is exhausting, Phoebe Green, you’re doing just fine.
