Liverpool singer-songwriter Mary Hennessy has returned with new single ‘You’re Gonna Ruin Me’, marking her first release in three years.
Hennessy has already built a catalogue spanning an album, several EPs and a number of singles, while also performing across Liverpool and developing a growing audience through TikTok, YouTube and Spotify.
Her previous release, ‘Feels Like’, arrived in 2023 and received airplay from BBC Introducing Merseyside and Amazing Radio. Several tracks from the release went on to attract thousands of streams, with ‘Only Me to Blame’ passing 28,000 plays on Spotify.
Hennessy has also been a regular presence within Liverpool’s grassroots music scene, performing at venues including Phase One, Quarry and LEAF.
A more intimate return
‘You’re Gonna Ruin Me’ was recorded at Docklands Speed Shop, with the track developing through a number of exploratory recording sessions.
According to Hennessy’s press material, one element remained important throughout the process: retaining the intimacy of the original demo.
That approach fits naturally with the emotional style that has already become part of her songwriting.
