September’s gig of the month comes courtesy of one of Liverpool’s most exciting up and coming bands; the Red Rum Club. On Saturday 29 September the Americana alt rockers will be riding back in to town to play the 02 Academy.
If you like big guitar driven anthems mixed in with a fair bit of mariachi trumpet, this could be for you. It is one of the band’s ambitions to write a music score for a Tarantino film, so if you like that type of sound, check these guys out. The lads have the unique ability to make you feel that you are in sunny Tijuana, Mexico rather than rainy old blighty.
Red Rum Club gigs are pretty inclusive and attract a diverse audience of all ages. Dancing is most definitely encouraged so don’t be shy and come down the front!
2018 has been quite a busy year for the band. The band was very honoured to play at the appropriately named Red Rum Lawn during the Grand National Festival in April. It must be noted that the band is not named after the famous racehorse, but the infamous “Red Rum” (murder spelt backwards) chant in the horror film “The Shining“. A record deal with Modern Sky Records was recently announced, an album has been recorded and is on its way. On the festival front, this summer they have played the Isle of Wight, Truck, Why Not, Sound City festivals and won a fiercely contested place on the Pirate Studios prodigy academy. In between all these developments, they have also been on tour, building up fan bases in Edinburgh, the North East, Sheffield, Bristol and London. The Red Rum Club will be out on a national tour once again in October through to November. This is a band that is literally going places, and the week after this gig, they will be jetting off to South Korea to play their first international festival.
The night kicks off at 7.30 pm and do come along early to watch the support bands. There will be three great local bands getting the crowd warmed up; Life at the Arcade, Columbia and Tracky. At only £8 a ticket in advance, this all adds up to a great night of music. Come along, join the club and have a party!
