Album Of The Week – Cut Glass Kings

True artisans take their time over defining their distinct craft and the gradual emergence of Cut GlassKings as a simmering, British rock and roll success story is testament to that. The release of the debut Album, out on Fri 27thSeptember 2019 on Skeleton Key, marks a significant chapter for the Midlands two-piece.

Striking over two million streams on the underground release of single Shadow of Your Love and a recent support  tour with mentoring ‘big brothers’, The Coral, smashing their way through seven UK-wide dates. Allied to three years of touring, hitching rides and honing their sound – has seen them slowly find their audience just below the radar and now finally come of age.

Their brilliant debut album shows of their prowess as phenomenal songwriters and gets right under the skin. Dentist drill guitar lines, loose and heavy Bonham-esque drums and a sense of relentless momentum creates the soundtrack for their life on the road, drawing the transience of sitting behind the wheel heading from hotel-to-hotel and stage-to-stage into their already oil-streaked sound.

The duo of just guitars and drums represent turned-up-to-ten, wall-stripping, smokey blues rock, drawing inevitable comparisons to The Black Keys and The White Stripes. Hailing from Stourbridge in the West Midlands, Paul Cross (guitar, keys & vocals) and Greg McMurray (drums & backing vocals) bring their own unmistakable twist and distinct vibe to proceedings.
This ten-track debut album, combines sessions at Parr Street Studios, Liverpool in the company of producer, James Skelly and the non-replicable acoustics of the drummer’s kitchen.
