Leasowe Castle has a rich history. It was originally built in 1593by Ferdinand, 5th Earl of Derby, second heir to the English throne. Named “New Hall”, it consisted only of an octagonal tower. The door was six feet above ground level for security and protection from high tides and the walls were one metre thick. During the First World War, it accommodated German prisoners, then from 1970 to 82 it remained derelict when it was restored to its full historical glory.
