This episode features Lee Harris, a renowned guitarist known for his notable associations with two iconic bands.
Lee first gained prominence as a touring member and co-manager of Ian Dury & The Blockheads in his early twenties. He spent a remarkable 12 years playing alongside the Blockheads, contributing his exceptional guitar skills to their sound. However, Lee eventually decided to take a break from the music industry to focus on his home life.
During this hiatus, a pivotal moment occurred when Lee attended a David Gilmour concert in 2015, accompanied by his longtime friend Guy Pratt. This experience reignited Lee’s passion for music and sparked an intriguing idea in his mind.
Inspired by the concert, he became determined to delve deeper into the early Pink Floyd tracks and explore them with greater seriousness.
Lee seized the opportunity to approach Nick Mason, the original Pink Floyd drummer, who had not engaged in extensive touring since 1994, unlike Roger Waters and David Gilmour.
In 2018, Lee’s dream transformed into reality when he, along with fellow musicians Guy Pratt, Dom Beken, and former Spandau Ballet guitarist Gary Kemp, formed the band known as Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets.
Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets was established with a specific purpose in mind—to exclusively perform the remarkable pre-“Dark Side of the Moon” Pink Floyd albums.
Their intention was to breathe new life into these timeless works and introduce them to a potentially wider audience. The band’s formation marked a significant milestone in Lee’s musical journey.
Currently, Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets is on the cusp of embarking on a whirlwind European tour spanning the entire month of July. Following this, they have an extensive Australian tour scheduled for September 2023, promising captivating performances to enthral audiences.
