Liverpool’s On the Waterfront is returning in 2027, and the first headliner could hardly be more at home on the banks of the Mersey.
Jamie Webster will headline Liverpool’s Pier Head on Friday 18 June 2027, with fellow Liverpool band The Cheap Thrills already confirmed to join him.
The show forms part of a four-day return for On the Waterfront, which will take over the Pier Head from 17 to 20 June 2027, with the remaining headliners and line-ups still to be announced.
For Webster, it will also mean a return to a stage that has already played a significant part in his rise.
Jamie Webster returns to the Pier Head
Back in 2023, Webster played two huge sold-out shows at the Pier Head, performing to a combined audience of around 26,000 people.
Those concerts came during a remarkable period in which the Liverpool singer-songwriter was making the transition from pubs, clubs and football terraces to some of the biggest stages in the country.
Four years later, he’ll be back.
His career has moved on considerably in the meantime.
Webster released debut album We Get By in 2020, followed by Moments in 2022 and 10 For The People in 2024.
September 2026 brought his fourth studio album, Running Round The Sun, a 12-track record which moves between the social commentary that has long characterised his songwriting and more personal reflections on identity, relationships and mental wellbeing.
Tracks including Just Begun, Across The River, Breadline and Everybody’s Gotta Love form part of the latest chapter in his catalogue.
But however far Webster’s audience has spread, Liverpool has remained at the centre of much of his music.
Which makes a summer night at the Pier Head a particularly natural setting.
The Cheap Thrills join the bill
Webster won’t be the only Liverpool act on stage.
The Cheap Thrills have been confirmed as support, with further artists still to be announced.
Their appearance comes during an increasingly successful period for the independent Liverpool band.
Their debut album Keep Cheap reached number 23 on the UK Official Albums Chart in September 2026, as well as hitting number one on the UK Album Downloads Chart and number three on the Independent Albums Chart.
The band have also announced an extensive UK headline tour for early 2027 after a run of sold-out shows during 2026.
Putting Jamie Webster and The Cheap Thrills together gives the first announced night of On the Waterfront 2027 a distinctly Liverpool feel, with more names still to come.
On the Waterfront returns for four days
Since launching in 2021, On the Waterfront has turned Liverpool’s Pier Head into one of the city’s most distinctive outdoor concert locations.
Previous editions have welcomed artists including Sting, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Paul Weller, Snow Patrol, James, The Coral, The Zutons, Deacon Blue, Ocean Colour Scene and Jamie Webster himself, with the Three Graces on one side of the site and the River Mersey on the other.

Fans can also register through the On the Waterfront website for access to the pre-sale.
And this is only the first announcement.
With another three headline shows and more artists still to be revealed, the 2027 On the Waterfront line-up is only just beginning to take shape.
For now, though, its first night has all the ingredients of a sizeable Liverpool homecoming: Jamie Webster, The Cheap Thrills and thousands of people on the banks of the Mersey.
