Norwegian alt-pop artist MIIA channels dancefloor energy while exploring emotional honesty on latest single, Necessary Evil. While the production introduces faster rhythms and UK garage influences, the emotional intensity remains at the forefront.

The contrast lyrically and sonically are what makes the track stand out. Themes of emotional growth and decision making are delivered alongside energetic 2-step rhythms and euphoric electronic textures creating a tension that makes for an engaging listening experience.

Produced by Joachim Rygg and mixed by Spike Stent, it consists of airy synths, chopped vocal textures, and punchy basslines giving the track a great sense of momentum and movement. Despite the track’s more dance-oriented direction, they managed to allow the emotion to remain so the feeling isn’t lost in the mix.

The decision to pair emotional songwriting with high-energy production can be risky; however, MIIA executes it well. When exploring themes such as personal growth, there’s always the chance of the message becoming lost within the production, but that is something successfully avoided on Necessary Evil.

Overall, Necessary Evil is proof that emotional introspection and club-driven production can coincide seamlessly. The release marks a confident evolution in MIIA’s artistry while reinforcing emotional authenticity that continues to confine her sound.
