Led by former The Strypes drummer and founder member Evan Walsh, The Savage Hearts have quickly established themselves as one of Ireland’s most exciting new rock ‘n’ roll outfits. Since emerging in 2024, the band have amassed an impressive run of five consecutive No. 1 singles on the Irish Downloads Chart, sold out every vinyl release to date, and built a growing reputation through electrifying live performances across Ireland and the UK.
Their latest offering, “Dead Letters,” showcases the band’s knack for combining classic garage rock energy with a darker, more psychedelic edge. Written by vocalist and guitarist Darragh Muldoon, the song explores the frustration of searching for answers and finding only silence in return.
“A song about trying to improve your current situation, but getting nothing back from the people and things you thought might help,” says Muldoon.
Driven by an ominous groove, swirling guitars and a restless sense of urgency, “Dead Letters” balances introspection with sharp wit, tackling themes of frustration, cynicism and neurosis while never losing sight of the band’s trademark swagger and melodic punch.
The release marks another significant step forward for a band whose momentum shows no signs of slowing. Following the critical acclaim received for their debut EP Radio Silence, released in late 2025 on Blowtorch Records, The Savage Hearts entered 2026 by signing with UK independent label Blaggers Records, laying the foundations for a debut album currently in development.
The group’s story is already steeped in rock ‘n’ roll history. Before forming The Savage Hearts, Evan Walsh spent eight years touring the world with The Strypes, one of Ireland’s most celebrated modern rock bands. The Strypes released four Top 10 albums across Ireland, the UK and Japan, achieved Gold Record status with their debut album Snapshot, appeared on iconic programmes including The Late Show with David Letterman and Later… with Jools Holland, and shared stages with artists such as Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters, Liam Gallagher, Paul Weller and Blur.
Now joined by Darragh Muldoon, Stef Byrne and Sam Morrissey, Walsh has channelled that experience into a fresh chapter that blends garage rock, psychedelia and classic guitar-driven songwriting with renewed purpose and energy.
Already earning support from Hot Press, RTÉ Entertainment, GoldenPlec, Radio Nova and a host of other media outlets, The Savage Hearts have also built a formidable live reputation through appearances alongside The Boomtown Rats, The Undertones, Dr. Feelgood and Jerry Fish, as well as performances at renowned venues including The Cavern Club in Liverpool and London’s Dublin Castle, Hope & Anchor and Hawley Arms.
With “Dead Letters” signalling the next phase of the band’s evolution and a debut album on the horizon, The Savage Hearts are proving that their early success was only the beginning.
