It’s been quite a year for Tim Burgess-approved Londoners Average Sex.
Since Charlatans frontman Burgess fell for their gorgeous songs in 2017 they’ve put out a wonderful debut EP Ice Cream on Burgess’ O Genesis Recordings, toured with The Charlatans and played a tonne of festivals and gigs.
Thankfully for ourselves and fellow lovers of their aforementioned gorgeous output, they found time to get busy in the studio somewhere in-between. Culminating in the release of Melodie, their simply fantastic follow-up EP, again through Burgess’ label.
It’s a sublime kick on to the next level for the quintet. A blink and you’ll miss it, melody-driven scuzz-fuzz trip that clocks in around 10 minutes across four tracks.
Just a skating the fringe, bitesize taste of this groups’ huge potential, Melodie picks up where its predecessor left off. It’s certainly another four reasons to love them, perhaps tighter knit blow to blow than Ice Cream was, more progressive too.
Finding love, losing love, slashing tyres, boys, girls, ice cream. Average Sex make sure all the important issues are covered. That’s not all we’ve got to thank them for though. As mentioned above, their quick bursts of fuzz-pop are pretty damn lovely, special mention for incredible Melodie closer U Suck here.
Irresistible scuzzy riffs alongside to die for lyrical delivery. Frankly the more tracks Average Sex put into the world and the more hectic their gigs get the better the music industry will be for it.
This is a band to get really excited about.
