As throwbacks go, The Lemon Twigs are Top of The Pops, and if you were in the audience at Hangar 34, you’d know exactly what I mean. When bands like this hit Liverpool, there’s always a buzz, but on a Saturday night, with the weekend atmosphere in full swing, the excitement was on another level. The D’Addario brothers kicked off their set with the jangly, 60s inspired “My Golden Years” from their 2024 release, instantly transporting the crowd to the West Coast of LA in the late 60s. Their harmonies were flawless, setting the tone for a night filled with nostalgia and musical brilliance.
Both brothers were unstoppable throughout the night, effortlessly switching between instruments and vocal registers, keeping the audience hooked with their energy and undeniable talent. The crowd soaked up every moment, singing back the band’s passionate vocals like a spell had been cast – and with those hooks and timeless song titles, who could blame them?
Tracks like “In My Head” and “Any Time of Day” from their latest LP, “A Dream Is All We Know” perfectly showcased their blend of influences, echoing the sounds of McCartney and Wilson while still feeling fresh and relevant. Their set was a mix of both old and new, but when they played “Fooling Around,” it reminded everyone that The Lemon Twigs are just as much about raw rock ‘n’ roll as they are about pop perfection.
Fittingly, they closed the night with covers of Gerry and The Pacemakers and The Beatles – a perfect tribute to Liverpool’s musical heritage. As if that wasn’t enough, the brothers even popped over to Slater Street for an after-show jam at The Jac, playing a few Scouse classics at the Rock and Roll Circus. It’s clear these guys live and breathe music. God bless The Lemon Twigs, la!
