In a world where small independent venues are being forced to close doors, making it more and more difficult for budding new bands to be discovered, Liverpool’s very own, Circa Waves have decided to take action and have created a platform to champion new talent.
Circa Waves will be taking over Liverpool Saturday 4th April and will be curating their very own music festival, Circa Fest. They have picked some of the city’s best music venues and will present a huge opportunity for emerging artists to showcase their work.
In a clear sign of Liverpool’s hunger for new music and its willingness to always show support it’s artists, the festival sold out within 24 hours. The line-up is jam packed with fantastic music including sets from the likes of Red Rum Club, Spinn, Pizzagirl, Harrm, Children Of The State, Abby Meysenburg, The Mysterines (Dj Set), Zuzu (Dj Set) and of course Circa Waves! It is an all-day event which will run into the early hours and will be a welcome addition to Liverpool’s 2020 live music programme.
Today’s Circa Fest announcement comes off the back of this year’s Independent Venue Week which celebrates music venues up and down the country. Both Zanzibarand Jimmy’s have been involved in this year’s Independent venue week, a nod to the people that own, run and work in them, week in, week out.
Speaking on the venture, Circa Waves frontman Kieran says: “We made our own festival In Liverpool and called it Circa Fest because why not!!! I wanted to showcase all of these amazing and talented upcoming acts Liverpool has to offer. Get on it”.
Alongside a sold-out Circa Fest, 2020 will see Circa Waves treating their fans to the release of their upcoming new album, Sad Happy – an album formed of two diametrically distinctive sides, released individually as ‘Sad’ and ‘Happy’. ‘Happy’ was released earlier this year and is available to stream here. The ‘Sad’ side will be united with the ‘Happy’ side to form the full physical ‘Sad Happy’ release on CD and vinyl formats on 13th March. The same named first single, is out now and if that’s anything to go by, Circa Waves will be enjoying a massive year.
Speaking on the new release, Kieran says the album is about embracing contrasting emotions: “Enjoy the sad euphoria And have a nice cry dance! Best listened to in groups or alone in the kitchen”.
