An indie/folk duo comprised of Robert Griffin (U.S) and Chloe Danz (New Zealand). The two met by pure luck over the internet in November, 2017.
Not long after meeting online, they sparked a friendship and shared love for acoustic, pared back and honest music. From their unlikely meeting, the two began the journey of writing and collaborating on original music from opposite ends of the earth, while still never actually meeting in person. Emails, make-shift home recordings, voice notes, Skype meetings led to songs that came quickly, and a true musical chemistry was born.
Soon after writing the first handful of songs, the two decided to try something completely unconventional. Using local studios in their respective countries, the duo began recording and sending tracks back and forth across the globe to piece together a complete body of work. This unique and considerably challenging way of writing, composing, and performing has led to this moment. These “Unintended Strangers” invite you to experience a different kind of collaboration.
The new EP December by Unintended Strangers, an indie-folk duo consisting of Chloe Danz and Robert Griffin, delivers a heartfelt and intimate collection of holiday-inspired tracks. The pair, known for their transcontinental collaboration—creating music without ever meeting in person—brings a unique chemistry to this release.
The EP showcases reimagined renditions of Christmas classics like “Silent Night” and “Jingle Bells,” as well as their interpretation of Norah Jones’ “December” and Sarah McLachlan’s “Wintersong.” Their arrangements lean toward minimalist folk with a soulful edge, emphasizing vocal harmonies and instrumental subtleties. Chloe’s stunning voice, combined with Robert’s refined musicianship, breathes new life into familiar tunes, offering a balance of melancholy and uplifting warmth.
Tracks like “Spirit of Christmas Past” reveal their ability to infuse ethereal and almost spiritual qualities into their work, a hallmark of their creative synergy. The stripped-down production highlights their artistry, making the EP a perfect companion for reflective moments during the holiday season
.
If you’re drawn to indie interpretations of seasonal music, December is a must-listen, blending tradition with the duo’s personal touch. You can find the EP on streaming platforms like Spotify and TIDAL
