For Filipino-Australian pop newcomer ALEXIS, music has always been a space of discovery as much as expression. After the dreamy glow of her debut ‘Blue Jeans’, she returns with ‘HATE IT HERE’, a track that doesn’t just continue her story, it reframes it.

The single positions ALEXIS as a voice ready to explore the complexities of identity, belonging, and growing pains through the universal language of pop. At its core, ‘HATE IT HERE’ is a song of contradiction: dazzling synth-pop melodies collide with confessional lyrics, creating what ALEXIS aptly calls her “upbeat sad girl” sound. The push-and-pull between pain and euphoria makes the track instantly magnetic, inviting listeners to dance even as they find themselves caught by lines that sting with honesty.

The writing process was equally as layered. Born during a songwriting camp in Bali, the track saw ALEXIS working alongside Murphi Field, Sally Chatfield, Oliver Kindred, and producer Tyler Murray. Their collaboration shaped a sonic identity that feels luminous but lived-in, pop-friendly yet deeply personal. Murray’s role, in particular, marked a turning point, unlocking what ALEXIS calls her “true sound.”

In the space of just two singles, ALEXIS has managed to craft a world of her own: polished but vulnerable, intimate yet expansive. ‘HATE IT HERE’ feels less like a stopgap between releases and more like a statement of intent. It’s proof that pop music, when handled with courage and craft, can be both deeply personal and endlessly replayable.
