As Future Now Festival returns to Birkenhead’s Future Yard this bank holiday weekend – our man Jake Marley picks out FIVE must-see artists for your Sunday schedules as well as a handy playlist of tunes from the artists.
CASINO
Soulful Liverpool indie groove machine CASINO pop over the water to open things up in Birkenhead Town Hall. A rising live force who’ve been handpicked for live dates with legendary Merseyside groups The Lightning Seeds and The Zutons they’re well worth checking out to get your evening started.
GENN
Anglo-Maltese post-punk art-rockers ĠENN released a wonderfully eclectic debut album in 2023 and captivate with their immense live performances. Be sure to catch them on the Garden stage before She Drew The Gun.
LAURA J MARTIN
Mercurial and bewitching live performer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter LAURA J MARTIN and her band have toured with PJ Harvey and Cate Le Bon and bring the songs of her stunning latest album Prepared – labelled “a thing of beauty” by 6 Music‘s Craig Charles – to the Future Yard live room.
SHE DREW THE GUN
Louisa & co need no introduction round these parts and this headline set on the Garden stage acts as a homecoming show. Now three magnificent albums in with a fourth on the way, the live set is jam-packed these days but we’re likely to be treated to the debut of some new tunes including phenomenal Steve Lamacq premiered single Mirrors.
NADINE SHAH
Nadine’s latest album Filthy Underneath is an absolute masterpiece and strong album of the year contender, so her surefire beautifully gradiose headline set to close the festival in the Town Hall on Sunday night is simply not to be missed.
