DAN THE MAN
Dan’s 4th solo album (released 26th July) sees him collaborating again with regular co- producer Rob Whiteley (The Night Cafe/BC Camplight/Ladytron). Entitled ‘Episodes’, it plays out like mini chapters of Dan’s life and thoughts.
At times deeply personal, at others surreal and apocalyptic, the album is a fantastic journey riding on the horseback of Dan’s mind. As a big
fan of TV shows and given the concept of the album, he wanted to play around with the standard format of releasing music and try something
more fitting by breaking the album up into weekly double episodes.
Dan’s been making music and performing with The Wombats for over 20 years. Along the way he has done 3 solo albums and has released an EP
and 2 albums with Sunship Balloon, a side project with Tord Øverland Knudsen. Dan started playing the piano, drums & acoustic guitar at a
young age & began making songs on a Tascam 4-track in his bedroom at the age of 14. This is where his love for recording & writing music began and it continues to this day.
ASTLES
Astles ‘Balloon Moon Pop’ Colors misty melancholy in pastel seaside shades. On stage, these songs are often sent into orbit by the Balloon Moon Orchestra; a ten strong group of musicians who wield string sections like the big skies wield fluffy clouds. The Astles Christmas shows have become part of local musical legend and are a gathering for the musical community of which Astles is a treasured member. Astles has supported the likes of Bill Ryder Jones, The Mysterines and Michael Head.
Daniel’s songwriting has piqued the interest of the NME (“gorgeous, lilting indie”), Clash Magazine (“he’s building a world inside his music – and it sounds gorgeous”) Notion Magazine (‘enchanting songwriting prowess’) and – absolutely no biggie – Sir Paul McCartney (you’ll have to ask Daniel for the full story).
Astles has been awarded PRS Momentum Funding in the past, and signed a publishing deal with Starwood Management (Michael Kiwanuka, The Kooks) and Sentric. Leading to him spending this year recording his debut album named ‘Soundtrack for the 21 Bus Home.
