Indie Pop sensation Sid Dorey returns with their deeply personal sophomore EP, Middle Seat — a poignant exploration of loss, letting go, and the pursuit of belonging. We speak with the rising star about all things, Middle Seat.
So, be honest — are you actually a middle seat person, or are you claiming the aux cord from shotgun?
I hate the middle seat and think it’s super uncomfortable… I would 100% be in the shotgun seat if I could, but that’s part of why I called it middle seat because it’s super uncomfortable unless you’re with the right people.
What’s the weirdest or most unexpected place you’ve ever written a lyric?
Right after getting into a car accident, like mid waiting for the insurance company to answer the phone.
If Middle Seat were a movie, what would be its genre and who would star in it?
Definitely an indie coming-of-age A24 film starring Elliot Page.
You’ve got millions of views on social media — what’s a comment or message from a fan that totally floored you?
Probably when a fan said my song made them “leave their boyfriend”.
Let’s talk music inspo — who’s on your current playlist, and who’s your forever artist?
I’ve been obsessed with flowerovlove and Rachel Chinouriri lately! My forever artist is probably Lewis Capaldi.
Your lyrics are so theatrical — if you could write a Broadway show, what would it be about?
I started writing a musical in college about the hasburg dynasty but from a comedic standpoint and I would love to finish that someday.
What’s something fans would be shocked to learn about you?
Hmmmm maybe that during COVIDI lost my job and only owned a ripoff razor scooter, so I delivered uber eats on a scooter around North Philly to pay rent. That one feels pretty weird.
If you could collaborate with any artist, living or dead, who’s getting the feature?
Remi Wolfe
Finish this sentence: “My EP release day looked like ___.”
Good people, darts, tears, laughs, and mai tais.
You talk a lot about finding your people. What’s one thing someone has to do to earn a permanent seat next to you?
They have to be able to handle my bluntness and not be a hater.
