We chat to NXTHXN about the incredible single release…

Your music journey is deeply rooted in your Christian-Caribbean upbringing. How have these influences shaped your sound and musical identity?

Growing up in a Christian-Caribbean household meant that I was immersed in a lot of gospel, reggae, R&B, and soul music. These influences cultivated my love for music and shaped my sound and musical identity.

You’ve worked with an impressive roster of artists, from Grace Jones to Stormzy. How have these collaborations influenced your approach to music production and creating your own sound?

Having the honour to work as a backing vocalist with some of the greats has been incredibly enriching. I’ve gained new perspectives and ideas, pushing me to expand my creative boundaries. I’ve also been able to connect with some truly amazing creatives in the industry. All of these experiences have shaped my music by allowing me to experiment with different styles and techniques, ultimately helping me grow as an artist.

In “One Time,” you aim to capture the universal need for love and unforgettable moments. Can you share the inspiration behind the lyrics and how they reflect your personal experiences?

The lyrics of “One Time” are just a snapshot of one’s quest for love. I believe that everyone has an innate desire for meaningful connections and shared memorable experiences with a significant other. The lyrics reflect the journey and the emotions associated with love and longing.

Delirious’s production on “One Time” adds a distinct Afrobeats flavor to your sound. What was it like working with him, and how did this incredible collaboration come about?

Working with Delirious was a dope experience. We connected through a mutual friend and shared a vision for blending R&B with Afrobeats to create a unique and refreshing sound.

“One Time” blends your R&B vocals with Afrobeats rhythms. How did you and Delirious come up with this unique fusion for the track?

The fusion emerged naturally from our shared love for both genres. Delirious brought in his Afrobeats expertise, while I contributed my R&B influences, resulting in a harmonious blend.

With “One Time” marking a new chapter in your career, what can fans expect from your upcoming solo project? Any exciting collaborations or new sounds on the horizon?

Fans can look forward to a lot more in the near future. Whilst I love creating genre-blending tracks, I also want to explore new sounds and dig deeper into my R&B bag so there will definitely be some of that in my upcoming solo project.

When you’re not making music, what do you love to do to unwind and stay inspired? Any favorite hobbies or guilty pleasures?

Well, I do enjoy going out and spending time with friends, but I am actually quite a bit of a homebody. I often can’t wait to be home, jump into my dressing gown, and unwind with my family. As a dad, my two boys are always my priority so spending time with them always keeps me satisfied.

Looking back at your time in the music scene, what’s been the most unexpected lesson or piece of advice that’s stuck with you?

The most valuable lesson I’ve learned in life, especially in the music scene, is to stay true to myself and my sound. Authenticity resonates with audiences and keeps the creative process fulfilling.
