Having achieved strong recognition on the Deutsche Alternative Charts and at international film festivals, Close To Monday are no strangers to acclaim. Yet for the duo, awards and rankings are far from the measure of success. What truly matters is connection — the listeners who experience their music and the emotions it evokes. With a sound that blends old-school synthwave with a deeply personal touch, their work has found a home not just on music stages but also in the broader cultural landscape, from art exhibitions to theatrical performances.

Rooted in their European heritage and inspired by symbols like Scandinavian runes, Close To Monday approach their art with a philosophy of strength, resilience, and hope. Each track stands as its own story, yet hints at larger narratives on the horizon. With a relentless creative pace, a commitment to authenticity, and dreams of collaborations with icons like Depeche Mode, they are carving a unique place in the global electronic music scene — leaving pieces of themselves wherever their music reaches.

You’ve achieved strong recognition on the Deutsche Alternative Charts and at international film festivals. How do you define success for yourselves beyond awards and rankings?

For us, awards and rankings don’t matter at all. What truly matters are the people who listen to our music. We want to reach as many listeners as possible — that’s the most important thing to us: to be heard.

What does it mean to you to be described as “guides for wanderers” through your music?

Well, we’re probably not guides — we’re more like companions, fellow travelers. We walk alongside those who journey through their own feelings and emotions.

Your performances at places like Art Dubai bring you into an art-world context, not just music stages. How do you feel your work fits into the broader cultural landscape?

There’s a strong element of dance performance in our shows, and when the stage allows it, we create not just a concert but more of a theatrical experience. It’s a completely different and much deeper emotional connection with the audience. So yes, our work fits — very much so!

The Scandinavian rune-inspired logo is a powerful symbol. How do strength, success, and time reflect your personal philosophy as artists?

We live in a complicated world, and we believe that we are who we feel we are — strong and successful. We live with faith in a bright, beautiful future, where everyone can find themselves and the strength to become better.

Many listeners describe your songs as transformative journeys. Do you think of your albums and singles as part of a larger narrative?

No, each track is its own story. But! In 2026 we’ll release an LP — and that will be a real narrative, maybe even a novel. We’ll see.

The electronic music scene is vast and diverse. Where do you see Close To Monday fitting within it?

I think our music is absolutely unique. We’re among the few who still play the way people did 20 years ago. Maybe that’s not the best for popularity, but we’re old-school synthwave — just with our own touch, in our own way.

Touring, recording, and releasing monthly singles must be a demanding pace. How do you maintain balance as a duo?

We don’t perform as much as we’d like to, and we constantly lack time for creating together — we wish there were more of it. We release one track per month, but sometimes we joke that if a day had 28 hours instead of 24, we could do so much more. Otherwise, everything is in harmony.

What kind of legacy do you hope Close To Monday will leave in the global electronic music scene?

We’ll leave small pieces of ourselves, and if those pieces ever reach someone’s heart, melt the ice, and help them see themselves and the world differently — then it was all worth it. It’s not really about the global electronic scene, it’s simply about life.

How do your European roots influence your sound and artistic vision?

They definitely do — we simply can’t write cheerful music!

What’s one dream collaboration you’d love to pursue in the future?

With Depeche Mode.
