Every Sinead O’Brien release to date has filled me with excitement – and on first listen to her new EP Drowning In Blessings is no different. Four songs of intoxicating, game-changing punk poetry; packed full of heart, passion and emotion, and lyrical tornadoes that strike a sharp chord in these turbulent times.
It’s beautifully layered. To the point where it’s very clear on your first listen that there’s so much more hidden within to unlock in your second and third. It’s brunt, at times cold but refreshingly honest to the core.
A collaborative effort with guitarist Julian Hanson and drummer Oscar Robertson, O’Brien’s releases thrive on instinct and improvisation. Something Speedy Wunderground production wizard Dan Carey also thrives on and hones beautifully.
