Australian indie pop artist Optacure, the creative project of Filipino-Australian singer-songwriter Edmund Gemelo Jr., returns with an evocative new single, ‘With The Moon’. Known for his raw yet polished blend of indie and electro-pop, Optacure delivers an intimate and expansive soundscape that encapsulates his unique approach to vulnerable storytelling and sonic exploration. This release is another chapter in Edmund’s musical journey, which bridges universal experiences with deeply personal insights.

Optacure first began making waves in the Philippines’ music scene between 2008 and 2015, where Edmund’s early projects gained attention for their emotional resonance and intricate melodies. A move to Queensland, Australia, however, sparked a new creative chapter, leading him to pursue solo artistry under the moniker Optacure. Derived from “Optical Cure,” the name reflects Edmund’s vision of seeking empathy and connection through music. Since 2017, Optacure has steadily grown an international fanbase with a series of singles that blend indie rock, bedroom pop, and electro-pop, gaining attention from indie blogs and radio stations from Australia to South America.

Inspired by a serene night spent watching the moonrise with loved ones on a beach, ‘With The Moon’ invites listeners into an intimate moment of beauty, connection, and fleeting joy. Edmund’s reflective lyrics echo his experience: “It was one of the most beautiful moonrises I had ever seen, and I realized it was because of the people I was with. I originally wrote about the fear of losing those moments, but instead chose to focus on how they made me feel,” he shares. The song captures the bittersweet essence of these shared memories, focusing on the warmth they impart rather than the eventual passage of time.

Optacure’s longtime collaborator, producer Ean Aguila, played a key role in bringing ‘With The Moon’ to life. Despite the physical distance—Aguila worked remotely from the Philippines while Edmund recorded in Australia—their creative synergy shines through in the production. Aguila, inspired by the versatility of Edmund’s DAW (Reason) and the eclectic sounds of Filipino artist Manic Mundane, embraced a fresh approach to layering and mixing. “This release challenged me to take the production in a new direction,” Aguila reflects. “It was a hard process, but ultimately satisfying and inspiring.”

With ‘With The Moon’, Optacure offers a sophisticated blend of ethereal synth textures, warm vocal layers, and a rhythm that pulses like a heartbeat. Edmund’s distinct style is both introspective and accessible, combining personal reflection with universal appeal. His ability to translate deeply personal moments into relatable, resonant songs has set Optacure apart in the indie pop world, making him a voice for listeners seeking emotional depth and connection.

As Optacure continues to evolve, so does his dedication to creating boundary-pushing music that transcends borders. ‘With The Moon’ not only builds on his evolving musical philosophy but also invites his global audience to connect through shared human experiences. With each new release, Edmund Gemelo Jr. solidifies his place as a powerful voice in indie pop, crafting music that bridges worlds and perspectives, inviting listeners to look a little closer, feel a little deeper, and, as he does, keep reaching for the moon.
