Being an upcoming artist makes you have days where you want to chuck your laptop out the window and say f**k it I’m done! And this song was that push I need and many others need to keep going no matter the landscape or atmosphere.
In ‘Go for Broke,’ you mention overcoming adversity and pursuing your dreams fearlessly. Can you elaborate on a specific moment or challenge that deeply influenced the song’s message?
I’ve had moments where I was sleeping on floors or couches and a suitcase with a shoddy wheel was my only home. Those moments create that hunger and drive that a song like GFB is born from.
The music video for ‘Go for Broke’ has some incredible visuals. What was the creative process like for bringing your lyrics to life visually?
Working on the treatment with Ikon media, we wanted to find a broken place as a visual representation of being in that low space where you have to build from. Also I wanted a red poker table because it’s on brand and it looks cool.
Your vocal delivery in ‘Go for Broke’ is both intense and heartfelt. How do you approach conveying such raw emotion through your music?
Honestly, it’s because it’s true what I’m saying and that’s something that when you are connected to it, it comes out the way it should. I love making songs where I’m pursuing to stick my flag on the mountain of rap for this generation. But making songs that are about my experiences and tribulations is a different happiness for me.
Your music blends elements of Rock & Roll with Hip Hop in a unique way. What artists or genres have influenced your eclectic style?
Everything from Bon Jovi and Guns n’ Roses to Lil Wayne and Kendrick. At one point I wanted to rap like Andre 3000 Thousand and Big Boi from Outkast but I could never match that flow, I just sounded awkward and like I couldn’t find a rhythm to save my life.
On the set of the ‘Go for Broke’ music video, you mentioned a daring moment involving a broken plane carcass! What was the filming day like for the video? Any more fun anecdotes?
It was freezing cold so I was jumping up and down before every take. It was also crazy windy and my hair was in front of my face for 60 percent of the shots! I had gone grocery shopping the night before to get snacks for the people on set. I was on all day so I never got to have anything to eat so at the end of the day I grabbed a box of Oreos and drove back home trying not to pass out.
