After the phenomenal success of their Bold Street flagship store, Bakchich have opened another branch opposite the glorious LFC shop in Williamson square. I popped in to check out what’s new and why you need to head on over…
Bit of an odd one to start with but go with it – we walked in and the first thing that struck me was the glorious natural light flowing in from the front of the restaurant, bringing the vibrant floor tiles and fabulous furnishings and textiles to life. Beautiful blues, glistening orange, ruby reds – all the colours of the Arabic rainbow giving a modern Moroccan vibe. In keeping with Bold Street there is an open part of the kitchen displaying crisp fresh salads and shawarma, creating the feeling of a tranquil spot within the hustle and bustle of the Middle East.
The emphasis is firmly on options here. There is a massive range for the vegetarian and vegan community within Liverpool and also lots of gluten free options which make eating out easier, especially in groups of mixed eaters as there really is something for everyone here. Everything was prepared fresh for us and was simply delicious. We strongly recommend the Meat Mezze platter – for 1 is £9.95 and 2 is £14.95 – great to pick over and catch up with friends if you’re not absolutely starving this will do you for a main course as it contains falafel, hommos, mixed shawarma, a few other middle eastern delights and is served with home – made bread and pickles. On the mains the highlight was the super succulent Gambary Meshawi – chargrilled king prawns with rice/fries/Arabic bread and salad for £11.95 – the prawns were massive and so juicy the shells just melted off. ‘Massive’ is the order of the day so whatever you do just make sure those eyes aren’t bigger than your belly as you’re sure to leave full to the brim!
So it’s a dry bar. Is it really dinner without wine? Yes, we think so, especially when there’s such an amazing choice of non-alcoholic beers from raspberry to Bavaria craft beer and the most delectable mocktails. We LOVED the Strawberry Mojito £3.95, I couldn’t have ever imagined a mocktail to taste sooooo good. Another firm favourite was the Apple, Lime and Mint juice which was fresh and super tasty, I can honestly say I didn’t miss alcohol one bit.
So head over to the newest addition to Williamson Square, give it a whirl and let us know what you like the most!
P.S For all you city dwellers you can experience Bakchich at home on Deliveroo! Don’t worry if you’re a bit further out, they do takeaway to…
